it's not polite to toot my own horn. so I'll let others do it.

“I can’t think of a better way to introduce a young reader to the magic of music and tempt them to discover, like Old Shoehorn, where their musical talents may lie. A Horn Is Born is a powerful fable for young readers and caregivers alike; it’s most highly recommended.”

Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review (Five stars out of five)

"It's a welcome addition to not just picture books about music, but those encouraging flexibility, adaptive thinking, and approaches to reinventing one's life purpose. Very, very highly recommended as a standout picture book story. An added bonus is its message about bullying."

Shannon Kate, Online Book Club

"I thought this children's book was a joy to read and unlike others I have picked up. The author and illustrator were able to have the words dance across the page with the pictures. As such, I have to give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would highly recommend this for young readers...It would be a great addition to a music teacher's classroom as well."

Bruce Arrington for Readers' Favorite  (Five stars out of five)

"The artwork is fantastic with the words stylishly placed on each page. The theme of bullying is also well represented, as it shows to young readers how looking down on others is not only unacceptable: it shows that there may come a time when that bullied individual is needed to help save the day. This book is sure to be a favorite with children for years to come. Highly recommended."

Semi-random Teacher-Librarian

"I have seen and used the gamut of picture books over the years...A Horn is Born is not only beautifully written and illustrated, it is versatile and unique! It introduces orchestral instruments, reviews aspects of bullying, and brilliantly shows how finding one's true purpose can be done with steadfast determination and resilience. Highly recommend for educators, parents, and gift-giving!!"

Natalia Bragaru - Imaducation.org of Australia

"It’s the freshest picture book idea of all I’ve seen lately.I love (Melizza Chernov’s) way of animating characters through facial expression and gesture be it people or instruments, love the unusual compositions of the world seen from the shoehorn’s perspective. The printed text seems to dance to the beat of the verse’s rhythm and I hear the verse without the need to read it aloud – a synesthetic effect of sorts.A great debut from both creators and I can’t wait to see what they do next."

We love it
